November 17, 1926 - May 6, 2019
Pauline (Polly) Demoskoff went to be with the Lord at the age of 92 on Monday, May 6, 2019. She was a resident at Talarico Place in Castlegar B.C at the time of her passing. She had been a long time resident of Grand Forks where she lived and raised her family. Pauline was born on November 17, 1926 in Kenora, Saskatchewan to Andrew and Mabel Negraeff. She was the youngest of 4 children.
Pauline lived a happy life with her parents and siblings and often talked about her love of singing and helping her parents with chores on the farm. She attended a one room school house and often told stories of her school days. She moved to BC with her family when she was 17 years old. She met her future husband William (Bill) Demoskoff while working in the Okanagan.
Bill and Pauline were married on November 5th, 1944. They eventually made their home in Grand Forks where they purchased a small farm in the Almond Garden area. Pauline worked very hard all of her life and made a good home for her husband and children. She was dearly loved by all of us who called her 'mom' and 'baba'. She always had her special home cooked food ready for anyone who crossed her threshold.
Pauline and Bill lived a satisfying life on their little farm and enjoyed many hours of card games and fun with their very good neighbours Ed and Wanda Carter. She was mom to Kathy Shaw (Lew), Margaret Clark (Peter), Judy Keus (Darrell) and Cyril (Butch) Demoskoff (Jacquie). She was 'Baba' to 12 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren. She always said how rich she was to have so many people to love.
She was a kind and gentle soul and she is missed. Pauline was predeceased by her parents Andrew and Mabel and siblings Peter Negraeff, Henry Negraeff, and Mary Horkoff. She was predeceased in death by her dearly loved son-in-law Kenneth Papove (Kathy) in 1969. Her husband Bill preceded her in death in 2008.
Due to failing health Pauline moved to Castlegar following Bill's passing where she lived in Castlewood Village and subsequently in Talarico Place. Her family gathered on May 11th at the chapel of the Grand Forks Funeral Home to pay their love and respect for her. Rev. Cynthia Pelletier of Castlegar, a family friend, officiated at the service. Lucy Cheveldave, Pauline's sister in law offered a Russian prayer and Russel Shaw her grandson gave the eulogy. Dannika Soukeroff, great-granddaughter sang a song she wrote specially for her 'Baba'. Her children and grandchildren spoke words of love and honour to the wonderful person that she was.
The interment took place at Evergreen Cemetery in Grand Forks. The family would like to thank the staff at Castlewood Village and the staff at Talarico Place for the very good care that was given Pauline. We would also like to thank Grand Forks Funeral Home for taking care of the arrangements.
