In Loving Memory ~

Paul Androsoff passed away on March 6th 2024, after a brief stay in hospital. The decline in his health was sudden, and he passed less than a month before his 87th birthday. He left behind his three daughters, Deena, Katya, and Tamara, as well as two grandsons, his beloved dog Rocky, and many many dear friends and extended family.

If you were asked to describe Paul, the first phrase that would likely come to mind is "a character". He was full of life right until the end, regaling his dear friend Rose with an elaborate story of how he accidentally climbed into the wrong hospital bed.

Though the empty space he leaves behind in all of the lives he touched cannot be understated, he wouldn't want us to reflect upon his life with sadness. He was a boisterous man, who loved his John Deere lawnmower, his Buttercup, and sitting on his back deck with a rum and Pepsi in hand spinning a yarn.

Every event was a story to Paul, and every misfortune would eventually become a one-man comedy special. He continues to live on in stories, both the ones he told (some of which were even true), and the ones that will continue to be told about him.

He is predeceased by his wife Naida (Postnikoff), who passed away in 2018. They had been married for over 50 years, and despite all the time they spent together, they were still the best of friends right until the end. They met in Grand Forks, the place where they would settle for the rest of their lives.

Aside from a brief stay in hospital, he remained on the same property he raised his three daughters, countless chickens, several dogs, and one Shetland pony, in a house he had built himself.

He and Naida both took immense pride in their house, and especially their garden. They would spend hours working in the backyard together, and every summer would have a beautiful haul of potatoes, cucumbers, and tomatoes; as well as an array of flowers that would attract swarms of honeybees. The telltale roar of his John Deere lawn mower— every Thursday without fail— will be sorely missed.

Paul had a collection of jobs, but will be most remembered as a CAT driver due to the countless stories he would tell about the bush— even being immortalized in rhyming verse in "The Ballad of Dozer Paul" by Terry Hynes.

In his retirement, he was an avid curler and golfer, and there was seldom a day he wasn't seen walking the dog on his deluxe motorized trike.

Though Paul came from a difficult background, his gratitude and love was unending. Despite the troubles he endured, he continued to choose love, his heart growing wider and wider every year.

There will be a celebration of life for him on March 16 at the Christina Lake Community Centre at 1pm. If you aren't able to make it, take a moment to pour yourself a glass of Appleton rum and Pepsi and toast to the life of Paul Androsoff.
