June 23, 1936 - May 22, 2019
Nick Nicholas Novokshonoff, age 82, of Grand Forks, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, May 22, 2019 in Grand Forks Hospital.
Nick was born June 23, 1936, in Grand Forks, BC, the son of Nick and Mary Novokshonoff. Nick spent his entire life in Grand Forks and attended Fructova School. After school, he spent his working life at the sawmill in Grand Forks. Nick was a lifetime member of the USCC and volunteered many hours doing whatever was asked of him. He was generous with his time and was always ready to pick up a hammer or move benches. Nick was a member of the Elks of Canada for over 52 years. He participated in many fundraising projects including being a fixture at the Elks' famous pancake breakfasts. He was very proud of the good work the Elks did in the community. In his younger years, Nick enjoyed golfing, curling and anything mechanical. Cars fascinated him as did airplanes. His annual excursions to the Abbotsford Air Show, together with visits with relatives in the Lower Mainland, were highlights for him. He liked to keep in touch with all relatives and became a live, knowledgeable family tree. Nick is predeceased by his parents (Nick and Mary Novokshonoff), his Uncle Pete (Pete Novokshonoff) and his sister (Anne Ogloff). Nick is survived by his niece Irene (Greg) Farris, his Aunt Helen Horkoff and numerous nieces and nephews.
The prayer service and viewing was held on Monday, May 27, 2019 at 7 pm at the Grand Forks Funeral Home. The funeral service was held at 10 am on Tuesday, May 28, 2019, at the USCC Centre, followed by internment at the Sion Cemetery. The family thanks Dr. Lewis, Emily, Dillon and the staff at Grand Forks Hospital for the care Nick received before his death. Grand Forks Funeral Home was entrusted with arrangements.
