March 7, 1936 - June 11, 2020
On Thursday June 11, 2020, Mr. Nick Louis Chernenkoff of Grand Forks passed away suddenly at the Boundary Hospital surrounded by family at the age of 84 years.
He was predeceased by his parents Louis & Anna Chernenkoff and brother Louis Chernenkoff. Nick will be greatly missed by his loving family including wife Vera; daughters Sandy and Julie; grandchildren Justin, Sydney, Nicolas and Sarah; great-grandchildren Matteo, Elizabeth and Milo; sister Betty Makortoff as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
He was born on March 7, 1936 in Grand Forks. The family later moved to New Westminster where he first met and then married Vera Markin, surprisingly also born in Grand Forks.
After working in construction in the lower mainland (including SFU and numerous other locations), Nick and Vera decided to move back to Grand Forks to raise their family and lived until his passing on the same property Vera was born on 84 years ago.
Once back in Grand Forks, Nick started a cabinet making business, BC Woodworks, then later worked as a foreman for Pacific Enercon.
Nick and Vera enjoyed travelling to Bluegrass Festivals in the summers, spending time with family in the later years and was a member of the U.S.C.C.
Nick was a master carpenter, photographer and musician. He could often be heard playing his Gibson Mastertone banjo by himself and with many members of his talented family. His greatest accomplishment was being the best husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.
The family is unspeakably sad that he is no longer in our lives but we have hearts full of amazing memories of him. He leaves deep roots, love, respect and his legacy will live on forever.
An urn interment will be held on July 18th for immediate family only. Celebration of life 2-6 pm at The Chernenkoff's home of 50 +years for the last traditional pizza and beer Saturday for family and close friends.
