September 8, 1973 - August 10, 2019
Surrounded by his family, Nick James died from cancer peacefully at Hardy View Lodge in Grand Forks on Saturday, August 10, 2019. Born in Aldershot, Hampshire, Nick lived his early life in England and Germany. In 1980, his family moved to Canada and he spent his formative years growing-up in Ottawa. After graduating from Lisgar Collegiate Institute, Nick made the decision to up his stakes and moved to British Columbia in the early 1990s. After spending a brief period in Victoria, Nick travelled to the Kootenays and made this region his permanent home.
Nick parlayed his love of cooking into a diploma from Selkirk College and put this passion to work at local restaurants and hospitality venues. He also worked at a tree nursery, as a recreational vehicle technician, and spent his final years as a real estate agent. Even from an early age, Nick was an avid outdoorsman. He was most content when his feet were in ski boots, a fishing rod was in his hand, or when he was at the controls of a boat. Nick was also a keen aficionado of music and spent many memorable days at Grateful Dead concerts and
music festivals.
Nick cared for his community and gave back - volunteering for kids soccer, at BMX meets, and ski events. He was known as someone who would give you the shirt off his back - even if it was the only shirt he owned - and was always willing to help-out and lend a hand to his friends and neighbours.
But Nick was proudest of his children - Jasmine, Pike, and Zendhar. They were his primary concern and greatest love. Graduations, school field trips, sports activities, or just fatherly advice, Nick was always there for them. Nothing made him happier than seeing them grow, develop, and thrive.
Nick is survived by his three children, his parents Nigel and Gillian, and his brother Ben.
A celebration of Nick's life will take place at 2 pm on Saturday, September 21 at the Christina Lake Community Hall on Park Road.
