Naida passed away peacefully just short of her 86th birthday at Ivy House in Grand Forks.

Born on a farm in Springside, Saskatchewan, sometimes mistakenly referred to as Pumphandle, she moved to Armstrong, B.C. when she was one year old. She completed her schooling in Armstrong where she used her entire 5'1" stature to star on the girl's basketball team. Then on to Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops where she excelled in her Registered Nurse training, graduating in 1953. Her outfit included a cape worn over her white nurse uniform and that cape went on to embellish many future Halloween costumes.

Her first nursing position was in Prince Rupert where she met her future husband Uel (Bert) Schroeder who had just arrived for his first R.C.M.P. posting. Within two years they had moved to Burnaby, where she worked at Royal Columbia and Burnaby General hospitals. Married in 1956, her first son Ken arrived in 1958 and second son Eric in 1959. It was then on to Vernon where her daughter Cary arrived in 1962. Mom kept the household running through numerous moves around

southern B.C. to Spences Bridge, Field, Kelowna and finally Grand Forks in 1971.

She was the secretary to the School District Superintendent in the 1970's and then instructed various night courses at Selkirk College. In 1980 she re-certified as a Registered Nurse and worked at Hardy View. Her next step was to develop and co- instruct a Long Term Care Aide program after which she went on to work in the infant development program.

Naida possessed superior arts and craft talents including sewing, knitting, crocheting and quilting as well as a natural ability to create outstanding and memorable costumes from everyday objects and capes. She was also part of the family ski team spending many weekends at Phoenix Mountain and enjoyed hiking in the Rockies and floating down the Kettle River.

Naida is fondly remembered by her children Ken (Maryanne), grandchildren Neil and Emily; Eric (Suzette); and Cary (Randy) Doubosiff, grandson Justin (Elise). Her husband Uel passed away last June.

Naida asked that no service be held. Donations can me made to the Grand Forks Auxiliary to Boundary Hospital, Box 1074, Grand Forks, B.C. V0H 1H0 or the B.C. Heart and Stroke Foundation.
