Myler Wilkinson

December 4, 2020

April 5, 1953 - December 4, 2020
Myler Wilkinson passed away peacefully at age 67, on December 4, 2020. He was born on April 5, 1953, to Dorothy and Rundle Wilkinson in Vancouver.
In 1978 he first moved to Grand Forks, where as a young Gazette reporter he met his wife, Linda (Wlasoff). Linda first introduced him to his love of Russian literature, and their lives went on to span the globe.
Myler studied literature in university, earning his BA and MA from Simon Fraser and PhD from McGill. A prize-winning author and editor, he shared an infectious passion for global culture and history that inspired students from Canada to Russia, Japan, China and Costa Rica.
Myler and Linda taught at Selkirk College, where they spearheaded the creation of the Mir Centre for Peace in 1999. This legacy is an institution of learning unique in B.C., which they developed alongside our area's Indigenous and Doukhobor communities, among countless others, where diverse peoples can gather to embrace their differences and together build cultures of peace.
Myler was a lifelong athlete and friend, with an infectious smile, ready jokes and glowing interest in every person he met. His boundless movement was finally curbed by Multiple System Atrophy, which he lived with for five years until his passing at Hardy View. The family's thanks go out to all the staff there. One of the last words he spelled out was "lucid," which described him in every sense.
Myler is survived by his wife Linda, parents Dorothy and Rundle, children Nathan and Anna, and siblings Melinda (George), Garret (Bronwen), Travis (Chris) and Randi (Terry). He is at rest at USCC Sion Cemetery in Grand Forks.
