November 24, 1930 - September 21, 2019
Mildred was born on November 24, 1930 in Benito, Manitoba. Mildred was the eldest of four children born to the family of Peter and Vera Popoff. The early years of her life were spent on the prairies before her family relocated to Grand Forks British Columbia. As a young girl Mildred worked in the farm fields of Grand Forks. Then as a young adult she worked in the Okanagan Canneries and packing houses processing and preserving fruit and vegetables.
Throughout her life Mildred enjoyed gardening. She planted and maintained large vegetable and flower gardens every year. The family happily benefitted from all her hard work both through the summer and winter as they enjoyed all the garden produce. Mildred also loved volunteer work and devoted more than 30 years of service to the Grand Forks Hospital Auxiliary. She always spoke highly of her experience with the auxiliary. She spent her leisure time knitting, crocheting and doing needlework. She made many beautiful and prize winning items. However the knitted lace doilies and table cloths were by far her favorite. Over the years she kept her family well supplied with her many creations.
She married her husband Alex Tarasoff on December 31, 1954. They were blessed with and lovingly raised their five children. Together Mildred and Alex celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary last year.
Mildred passed away peacefully on Setember 21, 2019 at the age of 88. She was predeceased by her parents Peter and Vera Popoff and her brother Peter (Laverne) Popoff. She is survived by her husband Alex Tarasoff, daughters Nadia (Guy) Renolds, Natalie (Michael) Wyper, Christine Nicodem, sons Walter Tarasoff, Ivan Tarasoff, her sisters Liza (Norman) Walker and Ann (Pete) Koftinoff, eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
