In Loving Memory ~
It is with heartbreak and sadness for our family to announce the passing of Mike W. Strukoff on February 20, 2022; at Hardy View Lodge in Grand Forks at the age of 93. He passed quickly and peacefully.
Mike was born on September 16, 1928 to Dasha and William L. Strukoff, in Grand Forks and his roots felt strong to live there all of his life. His siblings were Ann and George (Kelly). Ann (Nick) Strukoff and George [Kelly] (Florence) Strukoff; were predeceased. Also predeceased were in-laws, Anne (Pete) Seminoff and Vera (Mike) Siminoff.
Mike met Helen Demoskoff, the love of his life and they married on March 27, 1954. They had a daughter Judy and a son Joe (sadly predeceased at age 17 in 1975).
Mike is survived by his wife Helen of 68 years, daughter Judy (Ed) Poznikoff, grandchildren Melissa (Jeff), Shawna (Taylor), Ryan (Mishka) and great-granddaughters Noa and Maya; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins' and their families.
Mike was a devoted family man; always there with a helping hand, generously giving and making life better and easier for all of us; along with reaching out to extended family, neighbors and friends.
He held a soft spot in his heart for children; grandchildren Melissa, Ryan and Shawna were his pride and joy and they were so lucky to have him as their loving, hands-on, dedicated, playful Deda; sharing a lifetime of countless fun experiences together. Then great-granddaughters' Noa and Maya became 'the apple of his eye'.
Mike enjoyed family gatherings. He was kind, caring, thoughtful, welcoming and a good host. He wished everyone to be happy and have a good time. Mike had stories to tell, jokes to share, had wit and humor. He had knowledge and can converse on many topics. He was easy- going, had a gentle soul, smiles and laughter and made our world a happier place. He put others first. It always felt like 'home' with him.
He enjoyed having coffee with his buddies at A&W.
Mike & Helen took bus tours throughout Canada and the United States; plus trips to Cuba, Hawaii and Mexico; and they also enjoyed going to Casinos.
Mike worked in the logging industry; then joined the Operating Engineers and worked at many construction sites all over BC. He also volunteered to clean the USCC cemetery.
He lived a 'Toil and Peaceful Life' and enjoyed outdoors; gardening, fruit trees and fishing. He was innovative and creative.
Mike was well-regarded, respected and loved. He will be missed greatly; always remembered. Until we meet again.
Thank you to all of the doctors and nurses in the hospitals and Hardy View Lodge, who cared for Mike during those difficult days after having a stroke.
It is much appreciated and thank you to everyone for your phone calls, support, visits, food, flowers and donations to the USCC ISKRA, in honor of Mike.
There will be no services, at Mike's request.
The family will hold a private celebration of life at a later date.
