Mar 20, 1937 - May 15, 2018
It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of our much loved husband, father, and grandfather, Mike J. Plotnikoff.

Mike was born on March 20, 1937 to parents Mary (nee Makortoff) and John N Plotnikoff. Mike worked at various jobs over his years including many as a sawyer, but being a carpenter was definitely his favourite, as evidenced by the fact that he built the home he shared with Lucy. In fact, the name Plotnikoff comes from the root "plotnik" meaning carpenter; a craftsmen whose work was building with wood. He was very proud to receive his certification as a carpenter in 1989 when he successfully challenged the exam despite only ever having completed a grade 8 education.

Mike is survived by his wife of 55 years, Lucy (nee Reibin), and three sons: Lorne (Georgia), Mel (Cheryl) and Matthew (Jennifer). He also leaves behind his greatest source of pride, 8 grandchildren: Tyler (Kim), Kara, Mikell, Elena, Annika, Sophia, Ally, and Nick and 2 great-grandchildren, Zoiya and Milyka - Mike would light up anytime he saw his grandkids and their activities and achievements were the focus of so much of his conversations with others. He is also survived by his brother Pete and Pete's wife Vera, and numerous nieces and nephews and their families.

He was predeceased by his niece Gloria in 1979, his mother Mary in 1988, father John in 1989, sister Joanne in 2005, and brother-in-law Paul Horkoff in 2011.

Mike was battling a host of health issues in his latest years which ended with his peaceful passing on May 15, 2018 at Boundary Hospital in Grand Forks. He received excellent care throughout his health struggles and we would like to pass along heartfelt thanks to all the staff at Boundary Hospital, Home Support, and Day Care for their tireless efforts and support. The family would also like to express sincere gratitude to Everett Baker and the Grand Forks Funeral Home for taking care of final arrangements.

By request of the deceased there will be no public service, but a celebration of Mike's life will take place later this year.

"Vechnaya Pomet, Misha" - may he rest in peace.
