It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father, grandfather and brother Michael M. Verigin on Thursday, September 29, 2016.

Born in a Doukhobor village near Cowley, Alberta in 1929, Michael had been active with Doukhobor societies all of his life. In 1974 he became Secretary - Treasurer and later President of the United Doukhobors of Alberta, proudly serving until a few years ago. He was a valued Board member of the Christian of Universal Brotherhood Trust Fund, representing Alberta, and a member of the Alberta Cultural Heritage Council. He also served as a Councilman for the Village of Cowley.

For many years Michael worked closely with archivists in the province as well as private historians interested in the Doukhobor culture and religion. His dedication and commitment to the Doukhobor heritage will live on as his legacy.

Michael is survived by his daughters: Venera (Mike) Jozsa of Calgary and Liuba (Bill) Lyon of Grand Forks, B.C.; grandchildren, Madison and Brett Lyon, and sisters, Anne Bougerolle (Rene) and Vera Verigin both of Cowley. Michael is predeceased by his wife, Doris in 2009, his daughter Christina in 1981, his brothers Phillip in 1951, Paul in 2000, Nick in 2015, father in 1983 and mother in 1987.

Michael will be sadly missed by his loving family and many close friends and acquaintances. Prayer services and commemoration of Michael’s life will begin on Friday, Oct. 7 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Cowley-Lundbreck Doukhobor Prayer Home with an Interment at 3:00 p.m. at the United Doukhobor of Alberta Cemetery, Lundbreck, Alberta.
