Our beloved Mary passed away peacefully in Silver Kettle Care Home at the age of 83.
Mary was born in Grand Forks to Alex & Dora Hoolaeff. She was the 2nd oldest of 5 children.
At age 15, Mary went to Oliver thinning apples & working in the cannery. She met her husband Larry McDonald in Oliver. She married him in the fall of 1953 while living in Vancouver until her husband passed away in 1958. She moved back to Grand Forks & worked very hard in the fields for many years as a single parent, supporting her two sons.
Mary was a generous person and a great cook. In her younger years, she loved hosting for family and friends.
Mary was well read on world affairs & became active in peace marches, striving to make a difference. Mary enjoyed many travels to Verigin Sask., Soap Lake, Butchard Gardens in Victoria, Reno, Vancouver & Okanagan areas.
In the early 1960's, Mary became a life long member of the USCC. She belonged to the cooking group & loved going to prayer meetings every Sunday & various festivals throughout the year. ln her earlier years, she was a devout volunteer at the Verigin home whenever they needed her.
Mary had many interests such as reading, swimming, gardening, cooking, baking, canning, knitting, astrology & lots of walking. She took comfort in reading her Bible. GOD, family & close friends were especially important to her. Mary has 4 grandchildren, Breeanna, Jon, Kyle & Kreesha. She has 3 great grandchildren, Ellia, Gracyn & Jade.
Mary was predeceased by her husband Larry in 1958, father Alex in 1983, son Lorne in 1987, mother Dora in 2003 & brother Harry in 2018. She is survived by her son Bob from Grand Forks.
She was interred at the USCC Cemetery. The service was held privately on May 25th.
