October 12, 1930 - January 4, 2022
...Wonderful family man; instrument technician; inventor of practical things; beekeeper; camper & hiker; loving and attentive husband; skier; fisherman; woodworker; guitarist; house-builder; church-builder; cedar-strip- canoe builder (x2); quartermaster; whistler; kind gentleman who gave generously to his community, family and friends and a man of faith.
Lawrie left this earthly life to be with the Lord on Jan 4, 2022. He was born in Toronto and raised in Trail, BC. In 1950, Lawrie began working for Cominco and in 1953, moved to Kimberley, BC.
In 1955 he married his honey, Bev, and moved to Calgary for a short time, only to return to Kimberley to raise their 3 kids.
When not working at the Fertilizer Plant, he was involved with the Scouts, active in the United Church and busy building a kindergarten in the basement of their home so Bev could teach. Summers were spent at the Wasa Lake cabin (eventually transformed into their Dream Home) where every outdoor family adventure was made possible and where a good 25 years of Lawrie's life was filled with boats, visitors, campfires, chopping wood and swatting mosquitos.
Wasa Lake is also where Lawrie and Bev contributed to the building of the Valley Community Church (now the Wasa Community Church) on its new home site.
Together, Lawrie and Bev retired to Victoria in 1990, where they started a successful home- based business creating flower jewelry for Butchart Gardens. There, they also became very involved in the Central Baptist Church, happily donating hundreds of volunteer hours.
In 2012, they moved to Vernon and finally, in 2017 they arrived in Grand Forks to settle into the warm and vibrant community at Silver Kettle.
One of Lawrie greatest joys in life was to get on the road with Bev. Their trailer and a couple of grand children in tow, they'd wander off to explore yet another newly discovered lake in this beautiful province. Fresh air, a trout in the pan and family gathered 'round was his bliss.
Lawrie is survived by Bev, his wife of 66 years and their three children: Brock (Jaki), Greg (Tracy) and Tracey as well as five grandchildren: Davida (Cameron), Nic (Avani), Jamee (Ryan), Jordie (Kaitie) and Cianda (James) and four great granddaughters: Aubrey, Paisley, Presley and Mara.
Lawrie was predeceased by his grandson, Alex (2011), daughter-in-law, Cindy (2019) and sister Muriel (2020).
This sweet husband, father, grandfather, father- in-law, uncle and friend is dearly loved and will be greatly missed. May the joy he took in smiling and making others smile, in singing hymns and serving his community, continue to influence us in our kindness and care for each other.
Most sincere thanks to Dr. R. Lewis and the staff at the Christina Lake Clinic for their care and to the lovely staff at Silver Kettle.
In lieu of flowers, those who wish to remember Lawrie may do so with a donation to the Food Bank or a ministry or charity of choice.
A Celebration of Life will be held in the upcoming spring or summer.
