December 3, 1947 - March 19, 2024

In Loving Memory ~

Laura Kootnekoff transitioned to spirit peacefully on March 19, 2024, with family by her side.

Laura was, and always will be, remembered as a beautiful mother, grandmother, sister, cousin, dear friend, confidant, caregiver, and a very strong believer in following your own path, and following the beat of your own drum, something her family and friends will eternally cherish.

Laura was born on December 3, 1947, in Grand Forks to William (Bill) Kootnekoff and Molly Kootnekoff (Elasoff). Laura was the second of three lovely daughters that Bill and Molly raised in Grand Forks.

From an early age, Laura was known for her capacity to feel and to think deeply. She had a very giving and warm heart, and whether it was family, friends, neighbours, or even pets or animals, she would often help when and where she could. She wanted to see those around her thrive.

Laura's love of peace, quiet, nature, solitude and spiritual connection was evident in all that she did, and in her life choices. Laura's love for music, singing and "belting" out harmonies with those she loved never wavered. Her love of her children and grandchildren only got stronger as the years slipped by.

Laura touched many souls through her generosity and kind heartedness. Laura was never interested in any limelight, she simply wanted those around her to fully become their best selves.

Laura will be fondly remembered for her many gifts and talents, from her amazing cooking skills to her natural medicinal concoctions; from her ability to speak directly to the heart of the matter to her capacity to see through the BS in life. She was never afraid to speak her truth. And she will always be remembered for her deep capacity to love unconditionally, yet when required, to be feisty and tough.

Laura gracefully entered these last moments of her lifetime with dignity, compassion, and love.

Laura is survived by her loving children Calvin (Jamie), Jason, and Tasha Harshenin, as well as grandchildren Talon, Sydney, Rayna and Zak, and her sisters Vera (Harry) Jmaiff and Katie(Wally) Chernoff, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins and their respective families.

Laura was predeceased by her parents Bill Kootnekoff (2004) and Molly Kootnekoff (2014).

A very special thank you to Dr. Brussow and Molly Skerritt in Grand Forks for their exceptional support and care over the past many months.

A sincere thank you to all the caring staff at Palliative Care at Hardy View Lodge in Grand Forks, and the support staff and doctors at the Trail Hospital; and to all the other doctors, nurses and care aids who helped Laura these past few weeks and months as she prepared for her transition.

And a huge thank you to Laura's amazing extended family and friends, and to her incredibly special neighbours Belinda and Barry Todd and family, who supported her, cherished her, loved her, and who helped make her life journey so beautiful, unique, and inspirational. Love to you all.

"Soar with the Angels Laura... You will eternally remain within our hearts and within our souls."

A Celebration of Life will be held in Grand Forks in July 2024 (exact date and location to be announced).
