In loving memory ~
Kenneth Wayne Hilde passed away on February 4th, 2023, at the age of 82 after a brief illness.
Ken, the third eldest of 5 children, was born in Loos, BC, on April 4th, 1940, to Andrew and Dorothy Hilde. On August 3rd, 1963, Ken married Julie Hilde (nee Sargent.) This union produced 3 daughters: Lana, Dorothy, and Sonya.
Ken, a self-taught, savvy mechanic, could drive anything with wheels. In 1966, he was struck by a log and suffered a spinal cord injury leaving him hemiplegic. With determination, Ken worked against the odds and was able to walk again.
Ken worked the majority of his life in Northern BC. He drove logging trucks and was a loader operator. He worked in sawmills, log yards, and logging camps. He was well respected for his skills.
In 1981, Ken, and his family relocated to Grand Forks, BC, from Prince George, BC. Ken continued in Forestry working as a loader operator until he retired at the age of 55.
Ken loved to watch baseball and to tinker with motors and woodworking.
Ken will be remembered for his sparky personality, always quick with a joke, and infectious laugh.
Ken is predeceased by his mother, Dorothy Hilde (nee Leboe;) father, Andrew Hilde; brothers, Donald Hilde and Raynor Hilde; sisters, Kathleen Janzen and Sharon Davis.
He is survived by his wife, Julie Hilde (nee Sargent); three daughters: Lana Makortoff (Ken); Dorothy Hilde (George Hockl); Sonya Savitskoff (Leonard;) and six grandsons: Andrew Hilde, Trevor Mustatia, Lee Makortoff (Sandra), Richard Hilde-Radulovich, Noah Makortoff, and Kennith Curtis (K.C.) Hilde, as well as one great-grandson, Sawyer Hilde-Cummings, (Richard).
Ken's wishes are to have his remains brought back to the Loos, BC, family plot.
A celebration of his life will take place in Grand Forks in the spring, date TBA.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests consideration of a donation to the Grand Forks Hospital Auxiliary.
