The McKinnon family regrets to announce the sudden passing of Kenneth George (Ken) McKinnon on January 11, 2020 at Koh Rong Island, Cambodia. Ken was born in Powell River on September 27, 1942, and was raised in Grand Forks.
After a tour with the Royal Canadian Navy, Ken returned to Grand Forks and began a career as an Electrical Lineman. He married Gail Macgregor in 1968 and together they raised children Kevin and Kenna.
Ken was committed to the community, serving in the public sector and retiring as Superintendent of Public Works after 39 years with the City of Grand Forks. He also spent 39 years on the board of directors for the Grand Forks Credit Union, 25 years as a member of the Grand Forks Volunteer Fire Department, and many years as a member of other boards and service clubs including the Christina Lake Golf Club, Royal Canadian Legion, Masonic Lodge, and Gyros.
In the years since his retirement, Ken enjoyed extensive worldwide travel with Gail, visiting nearly 100 countries on 6 continents though summers were generally spent locally, golfing and enjoying family time at home.
Ken was predeceased by infant son Jaime, brother Dennis, and mother Doris, and is survived by his wife of 51 years, Gail, children Kevin McKinnon and Kenna McKinnon (Russell Wark), grandchildren Mark and Caitlyn Black and Dierdre and Robert Wark, and sister Carol Stjepovic. He will be dearly missed by a large extended family including in-laws Jill Cook, Peggy (Mike) O'Brien, and Ian (Shari), Blair (Viola), and Neil (Pamela) Macgregor and many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held on April 4th at 3 pm at the Christina Lake Golf Course.
