Jake was born in the Lost River area of Saskatchewan. He worked at various jobs in Saskatchewan and B.C. and then settled in Houston in 1963, where he raised his six children. He worked in all aspects of
logging until retiring in 1995. Jake and his wife Leny then moved to Grand Forks.
He is predeceased by his parents John & Olga Derksen, and sister Helen and brother-in-laws Isaac and Richard.
He is survived by his wife Leny, his children Cheryle (Gary), George, Gerry, Carole (Bryan), Charlotte, Carla. His brothers John (Lori), Abe (Donna); sisters Olga (Gerry), Tena (Bill); 12 grandchildren & six great grandchildren, many nephews & nieces, aunts Ellen, Mary, Annie & Tena.
There will be a Celebration of Jake’s Life at the Grand Forks Funeral Home on Saturday, Aug 31, 2013 @ 3PM.
