March 17, 1936 – August 3, 2019
Jack Gilbert Lewis, 83, passed away at Hardy View Lodge on Saturday, August 3, 2019 in Grand Forks, British Columbia (BC) after a life- long battle from workplace acquired asbestosis. He was born March 17, 1936 to John and Florence (Hepworth) Lewis at Carleton Place, Ontario, where he spent his early years before moving with his family to Victoria, BC.
He leaves behind his beloved wife of over 45 years Maria Van Loon, children Lynn (Laura), Lance (Donna) and Lorraine (Gordon McIntyre); grandchildren Alexandra, Ryan, Sarah, Ariane (Taylor Field), Nicholas (Lexi White); great grandson Laine Field; his brother Walter (Memory Elvin-Lewis); and a large extended family. Joan (Moskaly) Lewis was his former wife, good friend and mother to his children. He is predeceased by his parents and siblings, Douglas and Linda.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening (he loved passing along his fresh produce to family and friends), socializing with friends over coffee, and was an avid fan of hockey and old western movies. He worked in many trades over the years: ship-building, welding, carpentry, plumbing, auto/ farm equipment sales, janitorial, strawberry farming, hay ranching and more! He lived a preferred country life in Williams Lake (Lewma Ranch in Horsefly) and Prince George (in Salmon Valley where, without access to power, he built a house and in Red Rock) before retiring to Grand Forks and mild winters.
Jack was a great story teller and character. Jacks’ wishes were to be cremated with no service. Family will gather at a later date to celebrate his life. The family express sincerest gratitude to Dr. Robert Lewis and the many wonderful caregivers in Grand Forks.
To honour his love of nature, family and friends so wishing may make donations to The Grand Forks Community Trails Society or Nature Conservancy of BC.
