April 19, 1920 - Sept. 12, 2013

Jack passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 12, 2013 at the age of 93. Jack was born 1 of 14 children in Cabri, Sask, where he farmed and worked as a grain buyer until his move to Trail, B.C.

Jack & Pauline both worked at the Trail smelter where they met and later married on February 10, 1944. After their marriage, they relocated to Grand Forks. Jack wrote the civil service exam and was hired as a customs and immigration officer, employed from 1955 to 1983.

Jack served three consecutive two-year terms as Alderman before being elected mayor in 1966. Jack was never defeated and stepped down as mayor at the end of his fourth term in 1973. While in office he was successful in relocating and improving the Grand Forks Airport. The construction and completion of the new Grand Forks Arena was one of his proudest moments. In conjunction with, and the approval of the CPR, his success included the construction and opening of the Boundary Mall. An avid sportsman, baseball was his passion. As a result Jack was instrumental in organizing the initial birth of Babe Ruth Baseball in Grand Forks. A personal best highlight for Jack and Pauline was a meeting with her Royal Highness Queen Elizabeth.

Jack was predeceased by his wife Pauline in 2007. Jack is survived by his sister Dorothy in Cranbrook, B.C.; daughters Karen (Bill) Ladd, Barbara (Mike) Parenteau; sons Jack (Carolyn) and Bill Goddard; grandchildren Frank Diepenbeck and Karla (Wayne) Horan, Susan Boothman and Atlee (Susan) Boothman, Stacey (Kristian) Littmann, Nolan (Robyn), Jarrod (Shalyn) and Aaron Goddard; great-grandchildren Fija, Teka, Caprice Diepenbeck, Sara and Jacob Horan, Zarah and Alexandre Blondin, Asher Littmann, Maddysson and Broden Boothman, Myla, Ryder and Marley, Treysen, Kaiden and Gage Goddard.
