In Loving Memory ~
A beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away March 3, 2024. She was born in Grand Forks to Fred and Mabel Postnikoff on June 12, 1943. She was the eldest of four, with three younger brothers, Fred, Jim, and Bill.
Irene lived most of her childhood in Grand Forks where she went to school and worked at various local businesses in town, and then later, attended business college in Trail.
During this period, she was befriended by George Semenoff whom she married April 5, 1969. They started their life in Castlegar where they were blessed with twins. They returned to Grand Forks where she worked at Phoenix Copper Mine and Cook Motors as a bookkeeper for about 10 years .
In addition to her raising her children, Irene loved to garden, cook, bake, sew, knit and embroider. She made many treasures for her children and grandchildren.
Irene volunteered countless hours at Broad Acres, the Hospital Auxillary Thrift Shop, Boundary Lodge and Citizens on Patrol.
Irene leaves behind her beloved husband of almost 55 years, George; her children Melanie (Gord), Ken (Bobbi), Tracy (Rick), Stephanie and Stephen (Sara); her grandchildren Alex (Alison), Jenna (Mark), Mikaela (Steven), Amanda, Brittany, Ricky (Melissa), Tanya, Hannah (Garett), Abigail, Brycen, Bryce and Jaeden; and her great grandchildren Clarence, Noah and Wyatt.
She was predeceased by her parents, Fred and Mabel, brother Fred and daughter-in-law Amy.
A funeral was held on Friday, March 8, 2024 and Irene was laid to rest in the Evergreen Cemetery.
We would like to thank all the people who attended and those who brought food over and sent flowers and cards. And also thank, those who travelled great distances to help us during this difficult time. Many thanks to Kathy Marinov for officiating and to the Grand Forks funeral home for all their guidance.
