Helen Margaret Reid (nee Augustine) born in New Westminster June 27, 1921, passed away July 8, 2021, at Hardy View Lodge in Grand Forks at the age of 100 years. Helen is survived by her brother Carl Augustine and sister Edith Evans. Helen will be greatly missed by her family: her daughter, Valerie; her son, Gordon and daughter in law, Trish. and of course, by all her grandchildren, Jennifer, Amy (Steve), Lisa (Philip), and David (Nicole) as well as her 11 great grandchildren - Dawson, Braelyn, Reid, Caitlyn, Erika, Ethan, Nico, Colton, Jacob, Cooper and Jordan. While she will be sadly missed by all the family and friends, she will be joyfully reunited with her beloved husband, William (Bill) Reid and son, Norman Reid.
Helen has left us with memories of her sense of humour and her vitality in all aspects of her life. She loved to garden, flowers were her passion, and a good vegetable garden sustained the neighbourhood. Her pies were the best and family gatherings for fun and feast were frequent. Helen was an avid bridge player and won many trophies over the years. She was also the meteorologist for the Kootenay/Boundary region for 50 years and was applauded for her dedication by Environment Canada. Helen also worked in the banking industry as a teller for part of her life and customers loved having a good chat with her while doing their banking and she loved the interaction.
We would like to thank all the caregivers and nurses for their care of Mom while she resided at Silver Kettle and Hardy View Lodge. They say she was feisty, vibrant, and had a great sense of humour. Everyone loved her. We as a family, are grateful for the care she was given.
With respect to Helen's wishes, there will be no service. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any donations be made to the Grand Forks Hospital Auxiliary where Helen volunteered her time for over 50 years. She was loved and will be fondly remembered by family, friends and all who knew her.
