George Zibin, also known as Papa G, was born at Grand Forks on March 13, 1948, to parents Nick and Fanny Zibin. He attended high school at Grand Forks, then worked in the logging industry on Vancouver Island. He went on to train as an ironworker in 1970 and worked all over B.C. and the Yukon for many years. George took employment at IME to be closer to home in 1986. Prior to his retirement almost 4 years ago, George worked at Can Par Industries.

On October 8, 1971, George married Elsie Rezansoff and together they had two sons, Scott in 1974 and Shawn in 1976. Throughout his life, George was a devoted father who considered no sacrifice too great for the well being of his family. His greatest joy in life were his three grandchildren: Nicolus, Ayvra and Chase, whom he absolutely adored. He always looked forward to having them over for their play dates; spoiling them and watching them grow. George enjoyed fishing and the great outdoors. The quad was his newfound love. He also developed an interest in gardening and cooking in his retirement years.

George leaves behind to mourn him, his wife, Elsie; son, Scott (Kara); son, Shawn (Crystal); and grandchildren: Nicolus, Ayvra and Chase; as well as his sisters, Anne (Lawrence Kehler) and Florence (Larry Seminoff). He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and many friends.

George was predeceased by his father, mother, brother Nick, and sister Anne Straeloff.

George passed away suddenly and peacefully in his home on May 2, 2011, at age 63.

May God keep George in His loving care and may he rest in peace.

A celebration of life was held for George on May 5, 2011, at the Grand Forks Funeral Home. Funeral arrangements entrusted to the Baker family of Grand Forks Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent to gffh@shaw.ca.
