In loving memory ~
It's with the heaviest of hearts we say goodbye to the man we called dad, brother, "Deda", uncle and friend. Some knew him as Simon, The Mad Russian, G-Unit, Pops and Junior. Whichever name you know him by you know the amazing man he truly was. He was tough, stubborn, kind, compassionate, caring, fair and a bit of a perfectionist. Throughout his life, he touched many hearts as a dedicated man they could always count on and look up too. He devoted his life to his work, his friends and most importantly his family.
His love of music started at an early age. He belonged to many bands in his teenage years, played many instruments, and developed a strong bond with a group of guys that felt like brothers. They continued to jam until the end.
His grandkids knew him as "Deda" and his love for them radiates on. The man they looked up to for advice, a buddy to spend time with, an escape from all the rules, a candy store and a second home where they could have countless sleepovers - a man they truly adored.
Garry's 45 years with Dyno Nobel Inc. are legendary and have made Dyno a world leader with underground emulsion products and loading equipment in the mining and explosives industry. Garry's innovation and creativity have led to the development of equipment that is still the backbone of the industry today. Garry advanced in his career and moved to Kelowna. He became Senior Engineer of Research and Development until his retirement in 2021. Over the years he developed a reputation as one of the most knowledgeable people at Dyno Nobel. There was no piece of equipment that Garry couldn't fix. Over and above Garry's knowledge of products and equipment was the fact that he was such a "Great Guy" and could work with anyone. He will be remembered for that alone.
Left behind is his son Jeremy (Jana) of Quesnel, B.C., daughter Kristy Needham (Jamie) of Kelowna, B.C., and grandchildren Rylea, Everlee, and Finnley, sister Dana Novotny (George) of Grand Forks, B.C., sister Olivia Swaney of Penticton, B.C., nephew Jason Novotny of Kelowna, B.C., nieces Jessica Swaney (Dana Larson) and Kimberley Swaney (Abul Adame) of Penticton, B.C., uncle Kelly Rezansoff (Nancy) of Penticton, B.C., as well as family and friends.
Nunes Pottinger is in care of arrangements.
