1934 to 2012
On February 11, 2012, Gail Hairsine, R.N., passed away at Boundary Hospital. She was born at Mission, B.C., in 1934 to Leone and Philip Fredrickson of Matsqui, B.C. She was the oldest daughter with two sisters, Leigh and Gwen. Gail graduated from the School of Psychiatric Nursing in 1954 and worked at Riverview for a number of years.
In 1975 Gail went back to work as an L.P.N. at Boundary Hospital. Then in 1977 she went on to get her R.N. through Douglas College and continued working at the Boundary Hospital for many years. Gail was presented with a recognition award in 1999 for her contributions to the nursing profession.
In 1948, Gail first met her future husband, Don during the flood. They were married at Matsqui, B.C., on her parents’ farm in July of 1955 – the same year the Mission bridge went out.
They raised three girls: Terry, Tracy and Lezlie. Gail was an avid horseback rider in her younger years. She was a great wife, mother and grandmother. Gail loved to garden, she loved nature, and could often be seen in her jeans and ‘tennies’ coming back from a walk.
Gail is survived by her husband, Don; her daughters: Terry Hairsine, Tracy Hairsine and Lezlie (Dave) Russell; her sister, Leigh (Roger) VandeKamp and Gwen (Ken) Newhani; her grandchildren: Shane, Jennifer, Kate and Blake; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
There are no funeral services by request. In lieu of flowers please donate to the Boundary Hospice, Box 2647, Grand Forks, B.C., V0H-1H0. Grand Forks Funeral Home had care of arrangements.
