January 25, 1934 - August 7, 2024
In loving memory ~
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Fumio Izuka on August 7, 2024 following a short illness.
He passed away peacefully in the Regina Hospital with family by his side. He is predeceased by his wife Hiromi Izuka (nee Ikari), sister Louise Nishi (Hideo) and his parents Kiyojii Izuka & Tomi Takahashi. Fumio will be deeply missed by his sons Todd (Michelle), Craig, John (Charlene), extended family and friends.
Fumio was born and raised in Vancouver, BC, until October 1942, when at the age of 8, he was uprooted from his home and interned in Greenwood, BC. This experience left such an impression on young Fumio that when he wed the love of his life, Hiromi, in April 1971, they chose Greenwood to raise their family. During his working years Fumio worked a majority of his career as a millwright for the Pope and Talbot sawmill where he was affectionately known as "Goobie" by his coworkers until he retired.
Fumio loved sports and this continued throughout his life including golf in his later years. As he aged his enjoyment turned to watching sports live (Canucks) and on television. Fumio was an avid traveller who loved to get in the car and roam the open road with Hiromi, together they visited many casinos. He especially enjoyed trying new foods from different cultures and he knew the best Japanese restaurants in every city. Everyone who had the pleasure of meeting Fumio can attest to his kindness and generosity, who was always willing to engage in thoughtful conversations. He will be greatly missed and loved forever.
A Celebration of Life for Fumio will be announced at a later date.
