It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Fred Boyd on Sunday, January 12, 2014, in Grand Forks, B.C. He will be missed dearly by his wife Brenda, sons John and Michael, and step-daughter Katie. Fred was born on July 5, 1949 in New Westminster, B.C. He was the eldest of four sons to Lorne and Iris Boyd. He is survived by his mother Iris and brothers Darryl, Peter and David. Fred grew up in Surrey and had deep roots in the lower mainland, as well as the communities of Penticton and Grand Forks. Fred had a successful and varied career as an entrepreneur, lumber broker, restaurant owner and grocer. He was instrumental in growing the sport of ringette in B.C. and was an accomplished coach on a national level. Fred was spirited, witty, intelligent and generous. He loved his family, valued community, and was passionate about golf. Customers who shopped at Buy-Low in Grand Forks could always find Fred in his favorite place – the dairy department – where he would serve them with a happy smile and kind word. Fred was known for his incredible work ethic, strong commitment to customer service, dedication to standards of excellence, and service to community. The loss of Fred will be felt deeply by all who knew him.
