Fred Zaytsoff

December 13, 2018

December 13, 2018
Fred Zaytsoff of Grand Forks, BC went home to be with his Heavenly Father on December 13, 2018 at the age of 89.

He was born in Brilliant, BC to the parents of Polly (Saliken) and Mike Zaytsoff. He lived most of his life in Pass Creek on what he affectionately called, "The Homestead."

When Fred was only 10 years old his father died and left him to be the man of the house, which he took very seriously and always put his mother and younger siblings Ed and Luba at the top of his priority list.

Fred never married or had children of his own - instead he spoiled and doted on his nieces and nephews and was adoringly referred to as "our little uncle Freddy."

Fred started his working career as a general laborer at Cominco in Trail, BC. Over the years he helped fight forest fires and did some work at Wanetta Power Project south of Trail. It was there that he joined the union and became a self proclaimed "grease monkey". Whatever Fred did - he gave his all, his whole focus, his whole heart - including being the "best uncle ever"!

Fred was enthusiastic about gardening and passed on many of his "tricks" of having an abundant crop to his nieces or anyone worthy of a family secret.

He was the family historian and an avid reader, and the best social study report resource a niece could have.

Fred was a gentle hearted Godly man who never had a negative thing to say about anyone. He was humble and kind and loved his family fiercely. His smile, little teases and genuine love of nature and people will be sadly missed.

He was predeceased by his parents Polly and Mike, brother-in-law Fred Hlookoff, sister-in-law Pauline Zaytsoff, half-brothers Sam and Mike Zaytsoff and his nephew Gerry Zaytsoff.

He is survived by his brother Ed Zaytsoff, and sister Luba. Neices; Sheryl (Daryl) Green, Cindy Zaytsoff, Barbara (Cor) Vandenborn, Stephaine Martin and Lisa Der. Nephews; Robert (Lena) Zaytsoff and Rick Zaytsoff. He is also survived by his great nieces and nephews; Kristin, Kaleb, Ryan, Lee, Madeline, Sara, Lisa, Krystin, Rayna, Madison, Andrew, Zara, Jessica and their families.

"Our little Uncle Freddy"

The things we feel so deeply,

Are the hardest things to say.

But we your family loved you,

In a very special way.

They say that memories are golden,

Well - that well may be true.

But we never wanted memories ...

We only wanted YOU!

Funeral service for Fred will be held at the Grand Forks Funeral Home on Thursday, December 20th, 2018 at 10 am followed by a burial SION Cemetery.

Special thank you to all the incredible, caring friends and extended family and especially to the College Road neighbours who formed a loving support network around Fred and sister Luba.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Baker Family of Grand Forks Funeral Home.
