Born in Canora, Saskatchewan in 1930, Ernie passed away on November 8, 2017 at Boundary Hospital in Grand Forks at the age of 87.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 61 years, Margot, son Robert (Kirsten) of Christina Lake, and by his brother Tommy Scoretz and sister Ollie Laboyne.

He is also survived by grandchildren Stephanie (David), Alison (Rember), David, and Daniel, and two great-grandchildren.

After retiring in 1995, Ernie and Margot moved to Margot's former family farm at Christina Lake (Fife) and built their retirement home.

Ernie loved being outdoors on the property and was never happier than when he was working with firewood. He liked to help others and was an active and valued volunteer in the community.

He will be remembered by many for his cheerful, easygoing nature and kind heart. He had a smile for everyone and could strike up a conversation with anyone and leave them smiling too.

A family gathering to celebrate Ernie's life will be held at Fife in the spring.
