It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Liz to the next realm.
Liz will be greatly missed by her husband Bill of 63 years, her daughters Tracy and Valerie, her two grandsons, Conor, Tyler (Franzi) with their two children, Finn and Elio, and her sisters, Anne, Vera and brother Jack with their extended families.
Liz was a local. She was born and raised in Grand Forks which she loved. She had a wonderful childhood rich in the cultural history of the Doukhobors. Many hours were spent sitting around the potbelly stove with friends at her parent's store eating sunflower seeds- stories shared of a world lost forever.
Liz's vibrant personality shone brightly during the years of entertaining Bill's business visitors from the USA, Japan, Australia, Finland, Sweden, Germany and Canada . She entertained with a flourish, making everyone feel welcome, showing them her community, opening her home, presenting plentiful plates of delights, and filling her guests' bellies with excellent food and drink.
She mesmerized them with colorful stories from her active life. She was a master storyteller, entertainer, and excellent cook - she shared her favorite recipes and today many of her dishes can be found on dinner tables sparking exchanges of affection.
Liz was a master quiIter who took her craft to the level of an artist. She had an incredible sense of color and space; her work conjured up stories of family, and history, her garden, local nature, and her travels abroad. Her meticulously landscaped garden was a constant inspiration to her work. Her garden was a sanctuary, which she shared with family, friends, resident animals, and strays who needed comforting.
She spent endless hours cutting and stitching, searching for that perfect piece of fabric - sewing the quilt or hanging, piece by piece. She went on to share her great passion for quilting and held booked quilting workshops throughout British Columbia and Alberta. As a mentor to her many students, she helped them tap into their creative energies. She was also highly recognized by her quilting peers. Her work has inspired many wall hangings and bed covers, allowing her spirit to live on in many people's hearts and homes.
She was a very spiritual person with a softness and kindness that we will never forget.
Liz will be greatly missed by all of us and by request there will be no service. However, given the current Coronavirus situation, Liz's celebration of life will be postponed until further notice.
We would like to thank Dr. Mark, all the nurses and the support staff at the Boundary Hospital for keeping her comfortable during her stay.
