It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Doris Dutoff on November 25, 2024, in Grand Forks, BC, at the age of 86. She was born in Shoreacres, BC, in 1938, into the family of John and Polly Kalmakoff. Doris, one of five sisters, lived a life that revolved around her family, filled with love and cherished memories.
Predeceased by three of her sisters, her beloved daughter Sarah and her devoted husband of 63 years, Alec Dutoff, Doris leaves behind a legacy of resilience and deep familial love. She will be profoundly missed by her daughter Beverly, son-in-law Steven, and her two adored granddaughters, Alison and Holly. Friends and relatives in British Columbia and beyond will also feel the void left by her passing.
Doris faced challenges in her life with a spirit of feistiness and determination. Her strength of will and caring nature made her unforgettable and deeply loved by those fortunate enough to have known her. She had a talent for gardening and found joy in cultivating beauty and sustenance from the earth. Her culinary skills were legendary among family and friends, particularly her mastery of Doukhobor staples that brought comfort and tradition to many meals. Doris also enjoyed traveling throughout British Columbia with Alec, treasuring the natural beauty and adventures they shared.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Ivy House for the compassionate care and unwavering support they provided to Doris and her loved ones over the years, particularly during her final days.
A private celebration of life will be held at a later date. Her indomitable spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
