Don passed away peacefully at Grand Forks, BC, on Thursday, January 9, 2020, at the age of 75.
Don was born and raised in Grand Falls/ Windsor, NL, where he met Maxine at the Grand Falls Vocational school and they married in 1966. He completed his Electrical Construction apprenticeship in 1971. Then in 1978, he moved his family to Fort McMurray, AB and enjoyed a 19-year career at Syncrude as an electrical supervisor.
Don had a passion for life and was a devoted husband and family man. He was artistic as evidenced through his beautiful paintings, wonderful story telling, and his wood working innovations. He was active in hockey and an avid Oiler's fan. He loved to golf, dance, sing karaoke, and enjoyed a good bonfire on Guy Fawkes night. His adventuresome nature and passion for the outdoors led him on many camping adventures throughout BC, where he fell in love with the Christina Lake / Grand Forks area. Don and Maxine retired there in 1997 on the Ponderosa Estates where they built their "post and beam" dream home along the Kettle River and resided there until 2016 where at that time he was moved to Hardy View Lodge.
He will be lovingly remembered by his devoted wife Maxine, children Shannon (Gloria), Colleen, and Rory (Cassandra). Grandchildren Adam, Benjamin, Olivia, Elora, and Ewen and great granddaughter Addison. Siblings Doris, Boyd (Carlene), and Pauline (Peter), as well as many nieces, nephews, sisters/brothers-in-law, and friends. Don was predeceased by his parents Oliver, Ivy, and step-father Cleves and siblings Geraldine, Kay, Jean, Shirley, Colin, and Neil.
As per Don's wishes, a service will not be held. If you choose, donations can be made in Don's name to the Alzheimer's Society of Canada.
