With deepest sorrow we announce the sudden passing of Don in Kelowna Hospital on July 21. 2018, at the age of 83.
Don was born in Portage la Prairie, Mb. In 1935. At age 15 he apprenticed for electrician and followed his passion for electricity all his life. He married his only love, Maxine, in 1956 and never looked back.
He worked in all the provinces heading west as the family grew, settling in Grand Forks, working for Boundary Electric. He found a special place by the river where he built his home and raised his family. In 1979 he started his electrical contracting business, McConnell Electric and later DM Electric, specializing in mine and sawmill wiring, substations and high voltage, working in most areas of BC and the north.
He loved challenges, the bigger the better and scared a few guys by testing voltage with his fingers. He said he had the tools to build or fix anything and he did. If family or friends needed help he was always there. He was able to enjoy his motorhome with his wife by spending 2 months In the winter in Arizona for 15 years.
He is survived by: Maxine, his beloved wife of 62 yrs; Daughter Wendy (Harold) grandchildren Jason, Darryl, Shelley and great granddaughter Mya. Daughter Linda (Joe), grandchildren Leo and Nico, great grandsons Grayson and Noah. Son Wayne (Marg); granddaughter Acacia. Daughter Sharon (Ed); grandchildren Tyler, Emma and Garrett. He was devoted to his family and proud to finally become a great grandpa. He leaves sisters Gwen, Marj, Joan, Jean (Dale), brother John (Gloria), sister-in-law's Gwennie and Hilda, brother-in-law Bud, numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by brothers Clifford, Leonard and son Steven.
Cremation has taken place. No service by request. A private family gathering is planned at a later date.
