With “Joy” in our hearts, we gratefully remember the beautiful being that was “our” beloved husband, dad, grandpa, great-grandpa, brother, uncle and friend. His heart was pure, kind and compassionate in his dedication and love for humanity. Forever sharing that incredible twinkle in his eye. Dave stood strong for what he believed in, his integrity, and his incredible work ethic.

His transition took place on Tuesday, January 7th. 2014 in Grand Forks, B.C. David is survived by his wife Judy, 6 children; Stephen (Kim), Stuart, Jamie (Wendy), Wayne (Angela), Kristina (Andrew), Jamie; 13 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren (and 2 more on the way!); brother-in-law Brian and Sister-in-law Lillian, 2 nieces Sheryl and Kim, 3 great-nieces and one great-nephew.

David was born to Mary and Walter Watts on September 24th. 1935 in Haddington, Scotland. He immigrated to Canada in the late 1960s to begin a new life and his position of Farm Manager at the Variety Farm Training Center for the Developmentally Challenged in Ladner, B.C. In 1978 he and Judy relocated to Pender Island B.C. where Dave did Homemaking, Gardening, and Security. From there he and Judy became full-time RVers for 18 years, finally settling here in Grand Forks, B.C.

Dave became very involved in the community as Chairman of the Grand Forks Public Library, President of the Friends of the Library. He mentored the students at Perley Elementary School with the reading program, as well as working with 2 young men at the Library through a literacy program under the direction of CBAL.

A Celebration of Dave’s life will be held at the Seniors Centre on Summer Solstice, June 21st, 2014 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations would gratefully be accepted to Dave’s pet project, helping young pre-teen girls in becoming self empowered, by raising their self-esteem and confidence through a literacy program called “Girls Eye View” with Sheila Dobie and CBAL. (Columbia Basin Alliance for Literacy) here in Grand Forks. Checks may be made out to CBAL and mailed to P.O. Box 1496 Grand Forks, B.C. V0H 1H0.
