Darlene Annabelle Helena Patricia Funk passed away peacefully at home at Grand Forks, B.C., on Monday, April 25, 2011. She was born on August 22, 1944, at Vancouver, B.C. Darlene moved to Grand Forks with her mother in the early 1990s. Darlene was predeceased by her mother and father, Dietrich and Lena Funk ; and her brother, Rodney. She is survived by her brothers: Harold (Phyllis), Leslie (Lucille), Paul and Kenneth; and sister, Carolynn (Mike) Smith; and also many nieces and nephews and also close friends. Darlene was a special Olympian. She loved bowling, swimming and horseback riding. She loved to sing and was often seen playing her guitar while wearing her cowboy hat. She especially enjoyed camping with her good friends. She will be sadly missed.
A graveside service was held on Thursday, April 28, 2011, in Evergreen Cemetery at Grand Forks, B.C. The family would like to express their appreciation and thanks to all those who showed special care to Darlene. A special thank you to Sonya and Richard Soukop, along with their caring staff, for all the love and attention they gave.
Those who wish to honour Darlene’s memory may make a donation to the Special Olympics. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Baker family of Grand Forks Funeral Home.
