In Loving Memory ~
It is with saddened hearts we announce the passing of our dear husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Dan was born the second of seven children to Murray and Aileen McNamara in the little village of Arthur, Ontario.
He is survived by his wife Judy, sons John (Kim) and David (Sharon), grandchildren Clare, Marlee Pettit (Mark), Noah, Maya and Ruby and great-granddaughter Ellie Pettit; brothers Mark (June), Eugene (Lynn) and sisters Hope Campbell, Charlotte Philp (Bill) and Monica Landoni (Tom) and a large rollicking group of nephews and nieces.
Dan was predeceased by his son Daniel, sister Faith Graham and brother-in-law Rob Campbell.
As a teenager, he played hockey for the Arthur Lions Hockey team that were Western Ontario A A Champions for four years in a row from 1960 to 1964.
He also discovered a wonderful, lifelong talent for music, playing piano and organ in dance bands from the 60's until the mid-70s. From then on it was just for fun, backing up his good friend Wally Knash in fiddle contests, and countless hours with friends around the piano at home, a-pickin' and a-singing (sometimes even on key!).
Dan had a 50+ year career in the insurance industry, beginning in Guelph, Ontario as a Prudential Life insurance agent. He moved to B.C. in the late 60's where he and Judy began their lives together. They moved to St. Catharines, Ontario in 1973, where he worked for Allstate Insurance, and then back to B.C. in 1990.
Dan spent the next 32 years as an owner of Dave Dale Insurance in Grand Forks. Throughout his life, Dan made many enduring friendships: around the piano, on the golf course, and in the insurance industry.
The family wishes to extend heartfelt gratitude to all the healthcare workers who took such excellent care of Dan and Deb Baker and The Grand Forks Funeral Home who took such excellent care of us.
There will be a Celebration of Life for Dan on October 15, 2023 at the Christina Lake Golf Club from 4 to 6pm.
