In loving memory ~
Cycil Reed better known as Cecile Reed was born on June 23rd, 1935, in the small town of Elfros, Saskatchewan. She grew up in a very small house with her mom, sister and brother. In 1951, at the age of sixteen, she left school and moved to Saskatoon to find work to help support her family.
In 1955, Cecile met her husband Gordon Reed who was serving in the Canadian Air Force out of the Saskatoon military air base. After a brief courtship he was transferred to Winnipeg. They continued correspondence and in 1956, they were married in her hometown. They initially settled in Winnipeg where she worked in a drug store until Gord was transferred to Germany where they spent four years and had their two children Donald and Karen. They were transferred from Germany to Cold Lake Alberta in 1965. After 4 years in Cold Lake, Gord retired from the military and they moved to Christina Lake BC.
Cecile became a member of the ladies Auxiliary to the Christina Lake Hall and worked at the Town and Country grocery store in Christina Lake before moving onto Acres Rexall drug store in Grand Forks. In 1981 she attended Selkirk college in Grand Forks and obtained a homemaker's certificate and worked as a homemaker until her retirement. She devoted most of her time to her garden, house and family and friends. She was an active member of the Eastern Star. She was also a very active member of the ladies Auxiliary to the Canadian Legion, Branch 59 and served as their President for over 10 years. She passed away peacefully on August 20th, 2022 in her home with her loving husband of 66 years Gord at her side.
She is predeceased by her Mother Katie, Brother Alex and Son Don. She is survived by her husband Gordon, Sister Adele Larsen, Daughter Karen Bailey (Clive), Daughter in law Sherri Reed, Grandchildren April, Colin, Alena (Brian), Austin, Allan, Colton, Bryan, Jared, Andrew and Katelyn and two great granddaughters Anika and Leah.
A celebration of life is planned for Oct 22, 2022, at the legion hall from noon until 2pm.
