In Loving Memory ~
Suddenly, on October 14, 2022, Carole Naaykens, aged 80 years of Grand Forks, BC, passed away at the Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital in Trail, BC.
Carole is survived by her husband, Peter Naaykens, son Glenn Naaykens (Darlene), daughter Kelly Staple (Allen), son David Naaykens (Kitrina), son Scott Naaykens, grandchildren Alyssa Dueck (Edward), Carly Naaykens (Chris), Cody Naaykens, Ty Naaykens, Jake Naaykens, Rikki-Li Naaykens, great grandchildren Samantha and Cassidy Dueck, and her very large extended family.
Carole was born in the Camp Morton area of Manitoba, where she grew up on the farm. She enjoyed working summers at the Camp Morton Christian Camp and at 17, she moved to Winnipeg where she met Peter. They married 3 years later in 1962 and they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this past April.
Mom (Oma) loved her gardens and could spend hours in them looking after her flowers and veggies and spending time planning them every spring. She was also an amazing cook and baker. She would spend hours pouring over cook books and planning meals and nothing beat her home cooking!
All that aside, her greatest passion was spending time with her family. She loved her grandchildren and would spend hours playing cards with them, showing them around the kitchen and just enjoying their company whenever she could.
She loved camping and travelling with Dad and her sisters. Every trip was special. She was also a "hockey mom" for many years, following the boys from rink to rink, cheering them on and volunteering to help out and she showed her daughter how to be a gentle fighter.
Above all, Peter was her greatest love. Their bond was unbreakable and their love unquestionable. They spent many hours reading together, going for drives and walks, entertaining and just hanging out.
Mom, we now know why you brought us up to be strong. You knew that one day we would need the strength to bear your loss. We will look after each other, as you looked after us. Thank you.
Cremation has taken place by Grand Forks Funeral Home. There will be a celebration of life at a date yet to be determined.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Scleroderma Canada at scleroderma.ca.
