With great sadness we announce the sudden passing of Carol Floyd on March 4, 2014. Carol will be deeply missed by aunts Mary and Nel Makortoff, brother Sid Floyd (Linda), and sisters Wendy Mirmotahari (Afshin), Sharon Hunt (Earl), and Kathy Schaefer (Glen). Nieces and nephews, Sarah (Pablo), Nathan and Adrienne Floyd; Jayme and Casey Chisholm (Jody); and Madeleine and Rachel Schaefer. Carol was also great aunt to Keita, Anne, and Kenai Floyd; and Tessa, Eva, and Cameron Chisholm. Carol’s mother and best friend, Helen Floyd, greeted her in heaven where they are walking along a sunny beach far above the clouds.

Carol was born in Vancouver and moved to Grand Forks in 1969. Carol moved back to Vancouver immediately after graduating high school. There she worked for Canadian Customs Brokers and then started a long career with Canada Post. Carol continued to work at Canada Post when she moved to Kelowna in 1981 and until her retirement in 2012.

Carol was genuine, generous, and kind. She kept life-long friendships, especially with her high school friends. Carol was a devoted aunt to each and every one of her nieces and nephews. Carol loved to cook and sew for family and friends. She would arrive at all family reunions with an abundance of food and mass quantities of her latest sewing project with plenty for everyone. Carol’s passion for quilting took up much of her time in her retirement and she was a member of many quilting groups. She used to say that her quilts were her babies. Her sewing was impeccable and she had a gift for arranging colors and patterns. Carol loved shopping for fabrics – she who has the most fabric wins!

Carol loved to travel. In her early twenties she travelled to Europe and was abroad for many months. Her mother was her travelling and beachcombing partner and together they travelled to Jamaica, Fiji, Bali, Venezuela, Costa Rica, the Cook Islands, Cuba and Mexico.

We wish to thank Dr. Schulze, the staff at Kelowna General Hospital, friend Teresa Stadel who held Carol’s hand in her last hours, as well as Carol’s friends for their love and support. Carol’s family, friends, and fellow quilters are invited to a gathering at 2 p.m. on April 12th, Unit 2 - 1950 Burtch Road, Kelowna, BC.
