Bouchard, Carol Ethel Valine (Matthews)

November 21, 1942 – September 22, 2016

Carol Bouchard, our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend passed away at the McKenney Creek Hospice in Maple Ridge surrounded by family, after a valiant battle with cancer, at the age of 73 years.

Carol was born in Victoria BC to parents David and Helen Matthews. At a very young age she came with her family to live in Grand Forks where she grew up and attended school. Carol married Don Fritz in 1963 and together they were blessed with two children, daughter Dawn and son Tyson. The young family lived in Langley for many years. Later in life, Carol was married to Lou Bouchard with whom she lived happily in Port Alberni until his passing on Dec. 4, 2013.

Carol was also predeceased by her parents and her brother Richard (Dick) in 2007, sister-in-law Faye in 2010 and her nephew Cody Subotin in 2010.

During her life’s journey, Carol touched and impacted many people in a positive way: as a friend, a banker and in her business as a hairdresser. Carol was very athletic throughout her life. She excelled in sports during her school years and later was an avid curler and golfer. On more than one occasion, Carol won the Ladies' Club Championship Tournament at Port Alberni Golf Club. She also won the Gold Medal for golf at the BC Senior’s Games in 2015. Carol had a zest for life that was infectious and she remained upbeat and loving to her family and friends throughout her life.

Carol will be sadly missed by her devoted children; daughter Dawn (Ken) of Maple Ridge, son Tyson (Nicole) of Port Coquitlam, her two much adored granddaughters Braelyn and Kinsley, her step-daughter Sherri Bouchard and step-son Kelly Bouchard of Langley, her special auntie Donna Greenwood of Summerland and her first husband Don Fritz of Langley. Carol is also survived by her brother Jim of Abbotsford, twin sister Karen Kirk (Bruce) of Kelowna, sisters Norma Wilkinson (Bill) of Penticton, Yvonne Subotin (John) of Grand Forks and brother David (Cathy) of Summerland, as well as her large extended family and numerous friends.

A Celebration of Life in honour of Carol will be held on October 15, 2016, at the Murrayville Hall in Langley BC.
