Betty Surinak

1929 – 2016

Betty was born April 11, 1929 in Dunblane, Saskatchewan to Herbert and Katerine Woodruff.

She and her family moved to Oliver, B.C. in 1940, residing there until meeting and marrying Andy Surinak in 1951. After their marriage they eventually settled on a ranch up the North Fork where they lived for many years.

Betty was a dedicated volunteer at the Hospital Auxillary thrift shop and a longtime member of both the North Fork Community Club and the Grand Forks Senior Citizens Association.

She was also an avid knitter, crib player and enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles.

She loved hockey and attended many Border Bruins games as well as minor hockey games of her grand and great grandchildren.

Betty passed away peacefully at the Boundary Hospital June 10, 2016 after a short battle with cancer. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

Predeceased by her parents, husband, sister Grace Tirk and brother Dave Woodruff.

She is survived by her children Andy (Lorraine), Surinak, Terry (James), Rheaume and Sandra Surinak; 6 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Sister Linda (Richard) Schaffrick and brother Don (Fran) Woodruff. Also many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held June 18, 2016 at 2 p.m. at St. John’s United Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
