April 26, 1951 - May 3, 2020
It is with deepest sorrow we announce the passing of loving husband and father, Barry Alfred Compton.
Barry passed peacefully in his sleep at the Boundary Hospital one week after his 69th birthday, on May 3, 2020 due to complications from pneumonia.
Barry was born on April 26, 1951 in New Westminster. He attended school in the lower mainland and graduated from North Delta Secondary. It was the summer of 1969 that he met and fell in love with Lila whom he married in August 1971. In February 1972 and September 1973, they welcomed their children, Lei-Anne and David to the world. By the summer of 1981 he was done with the big city and he packed up the family and moved to the city of Grand Forks. There he lived a quieter life which allowed him to pursue his outdoor passions of farming, fishing and camping. While in the Forks, the man with his infectious smile, quick wit and gentle spirit worked hard at companies such as Leader Potato, Grand Forks Builders, Ok Welders, Valley Vinyl and Advanced Orchards. He was known for his passion and knowledge of all things building, joking that he was a Barry of all trades and not a master of one. In his younger years Barry also enjoyed many social activities. He spent evenings and weekends off the tractor making friends, playing slow pitch and curling. He was proudest to have spent these past few years during his retirement travelling with Lila to Cuba, Puerta Vallarta and most recently to see his ancestral beginnings in Prince Edward Island.
Barry leaves behind many that loved him - his wife of 48 years Lila, son David, daughter Lei-Anne (Chris). Grandchildren Geori, Shelby, Johnathan, Autumn, Drake and great granddaughter Emma. Sisters Marjorie (Bob), Laurie (Lance), Sister in Law Judie (Marlo) and many nieces and nephews as well as large group of friends. He is predeceased by his parents Alfred and Elaine, his brothers William and Ronald, his beloved mother in law Lillian, father in law Frederick and brother in law Ronald.
All are welcome to share his memory at the Omega Restaurant on August 10th, 2020 @ 2pm.
In lieu of flowers we request donations to be made to Canadian Cancer Society in his honour.
