Audrie was born on October 20, 1929. She grew up in the house that her grandfather had built on Joyce Road in Collingwood, Vancouver. Growing up in the thirties and 40’s in Collingwood was like growing up in a small town. The trolley driver on the Joyce loop knew her schedule and always waited while she ran to catch the interurban, which would take her to the pharmacy on Hastings where she worked. Tobogganing, skating on ponds, and skiing on Mt. Seymour were all part of a Vancouver winter in those days.
She married Arthur Joseph Wright in 1951 and together they raised five children. Audrie’s love of play never went away; she always enjoyed her time at the cabin on Christina Lake; water-skiing, swimming, and boating. Gardening was another favorite of Audrie’s; she had a beautiful yard and was always willing to help friends and family with their yards. After retiring from Acres Drugstore Audrie joined the Hospital Auxiliary, and became part of the “morning crew” at the Hospital Auxiliary Thrift Store. She is predeceased by her brother Douglas Cocroft, her husband, Arthur and her son Terence. She is survived by her children, Douglas (Bev) Wright, Karen (John) Mehmal, Marilyn (Rod) Clark, and Rick (Val) Wright, ten grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Audrie will be remembered for her beautiful smile, her willingness to help everyone, her never-ending energy and unmatchable work and play ethic. She died peacefully in her sleep surrounded by her family at Boundary Hospital on Saturday, April 19, 2014. The family would like to thank the staff at Phoenix Manor ( Abbyfield ) for their excellent care of Audrie over the past two years, as well as the staff and nurses at the palliative care unit at Boundary Hospital for their care and support during a most difficult time. A tea in honor of Audrie will be held on Saturday June 7, 2014 at the Seniors Centre in City Park from 11:00 am – 2:00 pm everyone is welcome to attend.
