Beloved for her feistiness, quick humour and strong opinions, Audrey died in the early morning of July 1st at Hardyview, with her loving daughters by her side. Full of spunk and compassion, she had a robust social conscience and used her sharp intelligence to learn about and support causes dear to her heart.
Audrey grew up on a prairie farm during the Depression, and then enlisted in the WRENS in Halifax during the Second World War. After demobilization she attended UBC, where she met Logan, whom she married. In 1950, they moved to Grand Forks and raised their two daughters, Kath and Val.
From an early age, Audrey had a strong faith and was a life long member of the United Church Women, where she formed many valued friendships. When Audrey was unable to attend services at St. John's, Erna Gobbett faithfully visited her to keep her up to date on services and activities. In addition to her work in the church, Audrey was active in the Hospital Auxiliary and volunteered in the Library for many years.
In her later years Audrey was fortunate to enjoy Win Blanchard's loving care and companionship. It was thanks to Win that, after Logan died, Audrey took pleasure in a rich and rewarding social life.
She was a terrific gardener and a lover of dogs (especially Millie at Hardyview). She thought her grandkids were the bee's knees and they, in turn, loved her dearly and took great pleasure in her letters, which were always entertaining and eloquent.
Audrey is survived by her daughters Kath (Gord) and Val (Rob), her grandchildren Jessie (Chris), Lindsay (Greg), Paige, and Duncan (Sarah), her great grandchildren Carter and Logan, and her cherished friend Win Blanchard, whose kindness and compassion is greatly appreciated by Audrey's family.
