March 18, 1931 - August 8, 2019
Antonietta (Antonia) Peder passed away peacefully on August 8, 2019 surrounded by her loving daughters. Antonia was born March 18, 1931 in Cunevo, Italy. She was the middle child of seven girls. Antonia met and then married Pio Peder on April 27, 1957 and immigrated to Canada in November 1957. They settled in Grand Forks where they raised their three daughters.
Antonia had a strong faith and was a lifelong member of the Catholic Church, where she formed many close friendships. She also loved to make rosaries, and made over 30,000, which were sent all over the world. Antonia learned to sew when still in Italy. Here in Grand Forks she did alterations for Rocco's Clothing Store, and she also sewed for many people in the community. Antonia was an avid volunteer with the Boundary Hospital Auxiliary Thrift Store and received her 25-year service pin in December 2018.
Antonia loved to go for walks around the community. She also loved to cook and bake, and shared many wonderful treats with friends and neighbours. She had a green thumb and always enjoyed her vegetable garden and her many beautiful flowers.
Antonia was pre-deceased by her loving husband Pio in 1993 and by her infant son John in 1964. She was also pre-deceased by her mother Maria, father Giuseppe and sisters Viola and Giuseppina. Antonia is survived by her three daughters, Edie (Robert), Maria and Angela (Randy); three grandsons, Matthew (Natasha), Jonathan and Benjamin (Emma) and great grandson Jaxson. She is also survived by her four sisters in Italy; Romilda, Ida, Alda and Rita as well as many nieces and nephews.
The family is thankful for all the support shown to us by family, friends, neighbours and health care professionals throughout Antonia's illness.
A prayer vigil will be held Friday August 16 at 7 pm at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. A mass will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Gabriel on Saturday August 17 at 10 am. Following the funeral service, she will be laid to rest next to Pio, at Evergreen Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Grand Forks Funeral Home.
Her kind and generous spirit will be greatly missed...May she Rest in Peace.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be greatly appreciated.
