September 18, 1932 – February 18, 2019
Anne Ogloff, age 86,of Grand Forks, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, February 18,2019, at Hardy View Lodge. Anne was born September 18,1932, in Grand Forks, BC, the daughter of Nick and Mary Novokshonoff. She married Pete Ogloff of Midway, brought up two daughters, Irene and Donna, and after spending the first five years of family life in Midway, they moved to Grand Forks.
Anne was talented, giving and loving. She had a natural talent for many things including sewing. Anne’s garden was a thing of pride. Even though she worked very hard in it, the garden provided beauty (with flowers and roses) and functionality (she grew some of the finest vegetables and fruits around). The bounty from her garden was shared with many family members and friends in the community.
Anne was a skilled innovator in the kitchen. She was able to turn the simplest ingredients into a fabulous meal. She used that talent as one of the head cooks at the famous Yale Hotel. Even as a vegetarian, she was able to prepare all the food on the menu with the expertise and knowledge of a five star chef.
Anne was a giver of her talents and her time especially to family. She devoted time to making life better for her daughter, Donna, and other people with special needs.
A lifelong member of the USCC, Anne volunteered her time on the Ladies’ Committee, in the cooking groups, fund raisers, banquets and special event meals. She ended her time as part of the Lapsha group. They worked hard but formed quite the social group.
Anne loved to sing and belonged to choirs that travelled North America performing concerts and extending arms of friendship. Anne opened her heart, her arms and her home to everyone. Visitors immediately became family around her dining table, whether it was coffee (which was always on), a snack (her snacks always seemed to turn into events) and her meals (inside at the dining table, in the decorated garage or under the trees on the grass), she always had something to give.
She was predeceased by her parents, Nick and Mary Novokshonoff, her husband, Pete, and her daughter, Donna. She is survived by her daughter Irene (Greg) Farris, her brother Nick Novokshonoff, her aunt Helen Horkoff and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
The prayer service and viewing were held on Sunday, February 24,2019 at 7:00pm at the Grand Forks Funeral Home. The funeral service was held at 10:00 am on Monday, February 25,2019, at the USCC Centre. Anne was cremated, and her ashes will be buried next to her husband and daughter at the USCC Cemetery. Grand Forks Funeral Home took exceptional care of the arrangements.
