Alf passed away on November 14, 2011, at Vancouver General Hospital. He was predeceased by his sister Alice (Blaine). He is survived by his sister Jean (Fred); nephews, Norm (Pat) and Tom (Catherine); nieces, Gwen (Chris), Leanne (Dean) and Vicki (Mark); and many great and great-great nieces and nephews.
Alf was born at Unity, Saskatchewan, on November 19, 1918. The family moved to Grand Forks, B.C., when Alf was a small boy. Alf grew up at Grand Forks but moved to Vancouver to become a film projectionist. He worked in theatres around B.C. until buying and running the Ridge Theater in Vancouver with a friend. He retired in 1978. Alf was a bridge player, traveller, and loved going to the symphony. He was a stock market enthusiast, and with his success became a generous philanthropist.
