Alex Makortoff born in Grand Forks September 21, 1941. Passed away Sunday October 9, 2016 as he wished with his wife Irina at his side.

Alex was predeceased by his parents Alex and Lucy, his sister Marie, and his ex-wife Betty. He leaves behind his wife Irina, three daughters - Valentina (Mark), Tamara (Aaron), and Liza (Neil). As well as two grandchildren Kyle and Leticia (Adam), one great-granddaughter Emily, niece Nyla (Darren) and nephew Ken.

As a respected leader in the lumber industry. Alex will be remembered for his drive for efficiencies and affective modernization of the Grand Forks, Midway, and Castlegar sawmills from his mid-20s through to his retirement in 2006. And it was his passion for golf with his friends is what brought him his true personal joy. Alex’s booming laugh will be missed by his family and friends.

Services will be Friday, October 14 at 10:00 a.m. at the Grand Forks Funeral Home, the Burial Service at noon the Sion Cemetery with the luncheon to follow at the USCC Community Centre.
