September 13, 1952 - October 8, 2024
In loving memory ~
Alex Kootnekoff, son of John and Helen Kootnekoff, passed away October 8, 2024 at the age of 72.
Alex (Baca) was a kind-hearted, gentle soul who enjoyed telling a good joke and making people laugh. As a youth, Alex played baseball and hockey and was a goalie for the first Grand Forks Border Bruins hockey team. Alex's all-star hockey status allowed him to represent British Columbia at the 1971 Canada Winter Games in Saskatoon. As an adult he continued to play casual hockey in his community. Alex also loved baseball and he pitched for the Winnipeg Hotel team, which often ended up at the top of the local fast ball league.
Alex worked at the particle board plant, Parta and Canpar and also at the local sawmill. He built his home in 1977 and three years later married Joan Ogloff. Their son, Brandon, arrived in 1989. As a couple, Alex and Joan enjoyed traveling and exploring new places. As a family they continued to travel and have new adventures together. He valued family visits with Joan's sisters, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews. Once retired, Alex continued to stay connected to his community, attending all of the Grand Forks International Baseball Tournaments and going out for coffee with old and new friends. Baca was a loving husband and father and a generous friend who cared deeply for his family and others.
Alex was predeceased by his parents in 1967 and is survived by his wife Joan, son Brandon, brother John, as well as his loving extended family and friends.
A Celebration of Life to honour Alex was held on October 13, 2024. Joan and Brandon would like to thank all who attended as well as all those who have reached out with kind words, prayers and assistance at this very sad time..
Alex is dearly missed.
