TAKE NOTICE THAT the Village of Midway will hear any public input with respect to the adoption of the OCP Bylaw No. 559, 2024, at the Regular Meeting of Council, on March 25th 2024 at 7:00 p.m., at Midway Council Chambers, located at 661 Eighth Avenue, pursuant to Section 464 of the Local Government Act. This Bylaw replaces Bylaw 380, 2007 - Official Community Plan.

Purpose: The bylaw, if adopted, would implement a new Official Community Plan for the Village of Midway, covering such issues as the need for more housing, greater economic diversity, support for Parkview Manor expansion, removing ALR restrictions and other land use matters.

The village initiated an update to its 2007 Official Community Plan in the spring of 2019.Arobust public participation process involved over 100 citizens in community workshops, advisory committee meetings, and focus groups. The process was designed to dovetail into an aging-friendly assessment and action plan which provided an insight into demographic changes and community needs. Due to delays caused by the pandemic and staff changes, the draft did not reach completion and was held at first reading and public hearing. In November, 2023 Council enlisted the help of a consultant to work with staff to review, update and ensure that it was ready for approval. Minor edits to the document have now been completed.

Any person may attend the public meeting to make written or verbal representation relating to the proposed OCP Bylaw No. 559, 2024. The draft bylaw may be inspected between the hours of 8:30 a.m. until 12:00 noon and 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., at the office of the Village of Midway, 661 Eighth Avenue, Midway, B.C., Monday through Friday, excluding holidays. Telephone inquiries regarding the above Bylaw may be addressed to the Village of Midway at (250) 449-2222.
