Environment Canada has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for the B.C. Southern Interior region.

Environment Canada has continued a severe thunderstorm watch for Grand Forks and the B.C. Southern Interior region.

Environment Canada says that there is a potential for severe thunderstorms, large hail and heavy winds in the afternoon and evening (July 15).

"An upper low over the Washington state has created a favourable environment for the development of thunderstorms over Southern British Columbia this afternoon and evening. Some of these storms may become severe with locally heavy downpours up to 30 mm and intense lightning being the main threat," read a bulletin at the Environment Canada site.

Environment Canada advises people to monitor weather conditions and take necessary precautions if threatening weather approaches.

The thunderstorm watch was originally issued earlier in the day, together with a severe thunderstorm warning, which said there was a possibility of a tornado – the warning has since been removed from Environment Canada's website.

A severe thunderstorm watch was issued last Friday.  There was lightning, which temporarily knocked power out for some residents in the Grand Forks area late-Friday night and early into Saturday.
